Starting in 2007 there will be two levels of Island Disc Golf Society membership, the advocate and the supporting member.


What is an "Advocate Member" of IDGS you ask? An Advocate Member is a non-paid membership (free), where you get to add your name to the growing list of members who support IDGS (emotionally and spiritually, not financially) and our efforts to promote Disc Golf on lower Vancouver Island. You do not however get access to the benefits of a full paid IDGS membership, such as voting at the AGM or discounts at local shops etc. To join as an advocate member email the society with your interest. membership@islanddiscgolf.com

Please become an advocate member if you are considering it, it is free and it greatly helps provide accurate representation of the number of Disc Golfers there are in the Victoria area!

Benefits of becoming a "Supporting Member":

· All members are also members of the BCDSS, giving us a strong voice at the provincial table.

· The ability to have a voice, both to have a say in the future of disc golf on the Island and to use our group influence to advance our sport.

· Access to member only functions.

· Discounts at local shops. : )

· Knowing that your contribution is instrumental in developing the sport of disc golf in Victoria and on the Island.

Membership

Society Fees: Annual Dues: $5.00 (required) Where Does Your Money Go? · The BCDSS: your $5 membership fee is paid to the BCDSS as payment for your membership in the BCDSS. Why join the BCDSS? The BCDSS raises funds to fund the growth of disc sports in BC. By having a large number of members in Victoria, we can ensure we get an equal share of the funding, something to this point we have not. This also gives you access to insurance that covers all BCDSS members in case of accident. Why support IDGS? · Building Materials: Most partners in course development are looking for us to provide the items to build the courses, including baskets some times. This is a common theme throughout BC. Having the experience of developing multiple local Disc Golf courses, we can offer education and support for course construction, maintenance, and materials. · Discs: Our Outreach program is aimed at the youth of our community. We've provided schools and community groups with targets, discs, and instruction. Look for our PR page to see our different community involvements. · Central Representation: Regardless if competition is not for you and only play with your friends, membership is still important. The IDGS is a 5+ year old provincially registered non-profit society with a good name in the community from its long interaction. Strong membership levels show that there is wide spread support in the community, and that we do not consist of just a few small isolated groups of individuals. We encourage members to propose events or ideas, and strive to work with everyone to show local municipalities that we are indeed a large force. Obviously your membership fee don't cover everything we need to accomplish, but "club" events, volunteer work, the sales of merchandise and sponsorships all help to fuel the growth of disc golf here in Victoria. We believe working as a strong collective is the best way to achieve the possibilities this area can provide. · New Membership Perk: As a special deal when joining the idgs you may buy an IDGS DiscCraft eliteX disc for an additional $15, which makes the membership $20 for the year. You have the following choices: avenger, wasp, or krush. When joining specify preferred choices of disc/color/weight and we will do our best to accomodate you.
